US Customs and Border Patrol agents in Arizona announced that they took Juan Olarte-Cruz into custody at approximately 11 p.m. on Dec. 10 approximately 20 miles north of the Mexican border.
Olarte-Cruz, 42, was convicted of second-degree rape in Nassau County in 2008. At the time of his conviction, he was living in Westbury, where the allegations of rape were raised. He was sentenced to three years in prison and was deported to Mexico in 2010 when he completed his prison term.
Now in federal custody, Olarte-Cruz will face federal prosecution for immigration violations.
